Commercial Diving Academy Takes Over Operation of 40 Fathom Grotto: On January 1, 2007, Commercial Diving Academy (CDA) of Jacksonville, Florida, assumed operation of 40 Fathom Grotto. CDA will continue to make the Grotto readily available to qualified instructors and divemasters, by reservation, plus use 40 Fathom Grotto as a deep-water training site for its commercial and recreational diving instructor students.

In the months ahead, visitors to 40 Fathom Grotto will see some significant changes as all of the Grotto’s facilities, including the dive store, rental inventory, bath houses, fill station and docks are updated and modernized. (See Changes at the Grotto and “Just the FAQs…”)

Commercial Diving Academy is among the world’s leading trainers of commercial divers, offering a comprehensive 16-week air/mixed-gas course leading to entry-level Diver/Tender certification by the Association of Diving Contractors International (ADCI). Additional courses are available in Mobile Crane Operation, Able Bodied Seaman, Underwater Welding and Burning, Diving Emergency Medical Technician (DEMT) and more.

Professional Scuba Diving Academy (PSDA), a division of CDA, offers a comprehensive four-week program leading to certification as a NAUI Instructor. Additional programs in technical and recreational diving are available through PSDA, and will be offered on a regular basis at 40 Fathom Grotto.
